Description

COP 31 represents a landmark shift in climate governance, utilizing a first-of-its-kind "Power-Sharing" presidency between Türkiye and Australia. While the physical sessions convene in the Mediterranean city of Antalya, the heart of the negotiations is driven by the "Pacific Way," emphasizing the existential threat to Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The conference serves as the ultimate deadline for countries to submit their NDCs 3.0, which must align with the $1.5°C$ limit. With a heavy focus on the "New Collective Quantified Goal" (NCQG) for finance, COP 31 is where the world must finalize the trillion-dollar architecture needed to support the Global South’s transition away from fossil fuels while scaling up adaptation and loss and damage relief.
