Description

The 38th Meeting of the Parties (MOP 38) returns to the historic city of Kigali in November 2026, marking exactly one decade since the adoption of the Kigali Amendment. This high-level summit serves as the supreme decision-making body of the Montreal Protocol. A primary objective for the 2026 session is the adoption of the 2027–2029 replenishment of the Multilateral Fund, which provides the financial backbone for developing countries to meet their compliance targets. Beyond funding, delegates will address critical gaps in global atmospheric monitoring and review the status of energy-efficient cooling technologies. As the "world's most successful environmental treaty," this meeting will celebrate past achievements while finalizing the technical roadmaps necessary to avoid up to $0.5^\circ\text{C}$ of global warming by 2100.
