Description
On April 22, a global coalition of frontline practitioners, community leaders, and cross-sector partners will convene for “Beyond Earth Day: A Watershed Moment”— in a nine-hour online demonstration event moving environmental dialogue beyond symbolic recognition into coordinated, real-world action.
The gathering represents not just another Earth Day event, but a turning point—a true watershed moment for how climate and development solutions are understood, financed, and implemented.
Convened in alignment with the UN COP30 Global Mutirão (an all hands on deck community barn raising), the gathering will highlight pathways to restore critical ecosystems through coordinated, community-led actions, with a focus on mobilizing support for restoration of the major river systems
sustaining planetary wellbeing and regulating Earth’s climate—emphasizing the critical Amazon biome.
Looking Beyond Earth Day
Organizers emphasize that this is not just a one-day event, but built through years of effort by many, and it’s intended to extend well beyond Earth Day with a regular pattern of gatherings and support. Within the framed format of the gathering, the coalition intends to catalyze continued collaborative support by connecting with upcoming key global environmental milestones in order to link local action with global frameworks for financing, governance, and implementation. As co-founder Moran Sol Broza said,
“Earth Day is the signal. What follows must be a coordinating system of implementation."
From Awareness to Implementation
While Earth Day has long served as a global moment of awareness, this convening is explicitly designed to carry that energy further and beyond. Participants will engage in a program featuring:
-
5-minute Solution Spotlights signals arising from projects across key river basins worldwide
-
Facilitated “Open Flow Dialogues” talks connecting solutions across all regions and sectors
-
Breakout sessions generating concrete commitment towards Pathways to Implementation
-
Be.Together Galleries of Solutions enabling ongoing access to projects and partnerships
Important pledges for our biosphere will be introduced, but the intended outcome is more than a declaration— it is a series of actionable pathways that participants can activate within 30–90 days in their own communities, like the Global Cleanup Games, Water Filtration or Watershed Wisdom Circles.
Produced by Be.WUN (Be. and WaterUnity Networks), co-hosted by Caring for the Future, UN COP30 Presidency, Climate Live, Global Cleanup Games, Climate Social Forum, Glocha, Global Commons Fund, IndrasNet and ERA, the 9 hour event is featuring the UN COP30 Digital Maloca, an immersive platform, as an innovative demonstration for how tech can serve to facilitate the healing of our Earth’s climate crisis.
By connecting these efforts within a shared framework, this gathering demonstrates how place-based coordination can strengthen global outcomes, particularly in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals—most notably SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
A Watershed Moment—In Every Sense
In hydrology, a watershed is the place where all Water Flows converge.
In history, a watershed moment marks a turning point—after which nothing remains the same.
This event brings those two meanings together, introducing a new community-led coordination model grounded in watershed-scale implementation. At a time when climate action remains fragmented and siloed across politics, geographies, and funding streams, Beyond Earth Day positions the watershed as the missing unit of coordination for climate and development action—where water, climate, land, food systems, agriculture, livelihoods, and community governance naturally intersect.
By focusing on watershed-scale, community-led coordination, the event highlights a powerful but underutilized truth. In the words of co-founder, Eliza Herald,
“When we align action at the scale where our life support systems actually function, the outcomes will become more stable, investable, and enduring.”
A Convergent Community of Practice
Mentored by the educational community of practice, Caring for the Future, the event brings together contributors working across many sectors and throughout major watershed regions, including the Amazon, the Congo, Nile, Rhine, Mississippi, Columbia and other critical hydrologic systems.
These eco-practitioners represent a growing movement of community-led, nature-based, local solutions integrating ecological restoration with ethical livelihoods and regenerative land management.
A New Model for Climate Collaboration
Beyond its content, Beyond Earth Day also serves as a living prototype of coordinated collaboration:
-
A hybrid system integrating immersive digital space (Maloca), global participation (Zoom), and enduring knowledge access (The Be.Together Galleries)
-
A shift from long-form information presentations to signal-based knowledge exchange
-
Facilitation models designed to reduce fragmentation, surface connection, and accelerate alignment
This approach reflects an emerging understanding that the challenge is not only generating solutions — but methods for how we coordinate them effectively at scale throughout the whole system.
About the Be.Together Initiative
Beyond Earth Day: A Watershed Moment is part of the Be.Together Initiative, a strategy advancing a coordinated approach to watershed community revitalization—aligning ecological restoration with non-exploitive market access, and financing pathways within the living systems that sustain all life.
